According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and national advocacy counts, over 250,000 Americans in families with children experience homelessness, with 80% to 85% of these homeless families headed single-handedly by women, primarily single mothers.

An Appointed Deaconess or any Minister recognizes that tens of thousands of single mothers reside in shelters on any given night.

Between 83% and 90% of all homeless families in shelters are headed by single mothers. Bishops see such jurisdictions in chaos and hopelessness.

Families make up roughly 30% to 40% of the
overall U.S. homeless population, and single mothers form the vast majority of adults within those sheltered family units. Bishops must send forth priests to shepherd.

High median rents routinely consume over 70% of a low-income single mother’s total earnings. The church cannot pay family leaders wages. What can it do?

Can the church not recompense Poverty of the Soul, the fleeing from an abusive partner as terror is a primary driver forcing single mothers and their children into emergency housing systems? This is simply a grievous mission field.

Just know that because roughly one-third of single-mother households live below the federal poverty line, and only about 29% of adults in homeless families report active employment due to childcare barriers, the church must first apply Mercy in person.

“Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow” (Isaiah 1:17).
