How the Duplicity of a Priest Antecedes His Church’s Closure

The church was Incarnation of Our Lord Parish in the Olney neighborhood of Philadelphia. Its senior pastor, Reverend Geraldo Pinero (known online as “Jerry from Philly”), was suspended in November, 2010 and later declared by his Archdiocese unsuitable for public ministry after federal agents raided his rectory and said he was running online multi-level marketing (MLM) and get-rich-quick schemes. The charge consisted of the allegation that Father Pinero had promoted MLM and pyramid-style ventures such as Teamwork Revolution Power Systems, Mentoring for Free, Infinity Downline, and AshMax under the online alias “Jerry from Philly.” The Parish itself was in 2012 closed by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia due to repair costs during a wave of closings and consolidations.
